22/24 March 2012
Leaving Hobart area to go to Strahan (West Coast) with a day stop over in the highlands village of Tarraleah.  Change our plans and continued on to Queenstown, as it was 6.7deg at 2pm at Derwent Bridge (highlands) and the forecast was snow during the night!  Hail and sleet in the morning in Queenstown and a nice 1.6deg!  Mount Owen (1147metres) overlooking Queenstown is covered with the first snow for 2012!

Continue on to Strahan as the Lyell Highway was now OK in that direction.  The Lyell Highway was still cut on the east side, between Derwent Bridge and Queenstown, because of snow and trees over the mountain road.  It was bloody cold and wet (hail and sleet) in Queenstown - we were pleased to be on our way!  Gordon river and west coast wiilderness railway here we come!

Moved to the North West Area and setup in Wynyard at the Beach Retreat Tourist Park. Good trip up from Strahan via Zeehan, Rosebery, Tullah and over a few mountain ranges, with lunch at Hellyer Gorge.  Booked in to the Park until after Easter to ensure a spot (and power for the heater).  We now realise that in Tassie, it rains for 9 months and is wet for the rest of the year!

Moved to Gowrie Park Wilderness Village which is under Mt Roland (1234 metres) and only 43 km from Cradle Mountain (1535 metres) so Denis can do some walks in the Cradle Mountain National Park.  The weather over Easter was cold with morning temp near zero on the coast.  However it looks like the temp will be a little better in the next few days, great for walking in the alpine central plateau!  Also we will have a look at the Sheffield area.   Cradle Mountain National Park was just the greatest!
